World of Free MMORPGs
Massively multiplayer online role-playing game is quite a mouthful and more commonly known as MMORPG. MMORPG refers to role-playing video games in which large numbers of players interact with one another. In this virtual game world players customize characters, assume the role of their character, interact socially with other player characters, and progress through storylines to achieve goals. In other words, they escape reality.
The most recognizable MMORPG is World of Warcraft with approximately 11 million people playing. In the case of WoW there are monthly subscription fees and fees with each added expansion. For some who want to play MMORPGs, the idea of being tied down by a monthly fee is daunting. In this case, it is time to start thinking about a free MMORPG.
There are several free MMORPGs. Don't be fooled by the idea that free means less quality. There are many high quality free MMORPGs that provide just as much content and hours of awesomeness as those that require a subscription. A couple that jump instantly to mind are Dungeons & Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online. Both games offer incredible free play. Both do offer options to subscribe and give perks to those who do, but one can still have fun without subscribing. This is keeping in mind that if you want to expand content you'll still have to shell out money for expansion packs.
As much fun as both of those games are, they are just a drop in the bucket that is the world of free MMORPG. Choosing the best is a matter of debate and comes down to personal taste and preference of genre. League of Legends is a very team oriented free MMORPG where players choose a champion and use their abilities to fight their enemies. Runes of Magic offers 3D graphics, 600 quests, and has a community of over 2 million. Rosh Online is a fantasy game that offers PvP, and adventures in an Extreme Instance Dungeon.
The free MMORPG list is never ending. Whatever you are looking for in an MMORPG, it is out there and it is free to play.
